Kimber 84 – titanium bolt handle

The Kimber 84 – titanium bolt handle is a direct, screw-in replacement for your original Kimber 84 bolt handle. A really unique offering for this price is that two stems for the price of one are supplied with this product. This allows customization of overall length to suit personal preferences. The Kimber 84 – titanium bolt handle includes a carbon fibre tactical bolt knob.

Our intermediate and tactical knobs will typically be used with this handle.

These handles will fit both the 84M and the 84L actions and both lengths are lighter and stronger than the original. These handles will achieve the greatest savings of weight without sacrificing quality and offers improved grip and leverage over the factory handle.

Compatibility check

Over more then 120 of these handles have been sold without compatibility issues. However we have one example in Europe where the titanium handle showed not to be compatible with the factory Kimber rifle. In this case the bolt body of the Kimber rifle did not have the counterbore to receive the Titanium handle. This counterbore in the bolt body is needed and normally there to have the titanium handle fit. This because the Titanium handle does not have a thread recess cut on the end. A picture of the bolt body without the counterbore is shown as the last image in the gallery. If your bolt looks like this, the titanium handle is not compatbile without a small modification to the bolt body. The easiest modification is to make a small counterbore. So kindly please check your bolt body with the handle removed before you buy this product. If you are in doubt, you can sent over a picture of your bolt body without the handle and a good view on the threaded area so we can advise.

• Our two handle lengths have been optimized for the lengths of the different knobs we manufacture
• The compatible knobs are intermediate and tactical (refer to dimensions in the image gallery)
• The short length handle stem is 0.825″ (21mm) – not counting the length of both threads
• The long length handle stem is 1.1″ (28mm) – not counting the length of both threads
• The OEM handle overall length minus the thread for the bolt body is 1.96″ (49mm)
• The OEM knob diameter is 0.741″ (18.82mm) at its widest point
• Weight of handle including tactical carbon fiber knob = 0.7oz (19g)
• Thread for bolt body = 1/4″ x 28 (UNF)
• Thread for bolt knob = 5/16″ x 24 (UNF)

Fitting Guide

The factory handle of Kimber 84 is threaded directly into the bolt body using a 1/4″ x 28 UNF thread. This can be removed by wrapping the original handle in a strip of thick leather such as from an old belt (or good quality vise soft jaws) and securing firmly in a bench vise with the bolt body positioned parallel and just above the vise jaws.

If your Kimber has a separate bolt knob fitted as standard (tactical models) – unscrew this from the handle first before mounting into the vise. The bolt body can now be rotated anti-clockwise to unscrew from the handle. Clean threads if necessary then screw our replacement titanium alloy stem into the bolt body firmly by hand. The knob then can then be attached to this threaded stem.

Notes

• This handle is not compatible with our round 1″ knob.
• A strip of thick leather (or padded vise jaws) serve to grip the bolt handle firmly and avoid marring the finish.
• Never use excessive force to unscrew the factory handle as this may result in it breaking / snapping .
• If using a thread locking compound, we don’t recommend using anything stronger than purple Loctite (222) or equivalent
