Description

This 7075-T76 tactical aluminium alloy bolt knob can function as a glass breaking hammer. The bolt knob has a tungsten carbide tip inside which is reachable with a removable end cap.

It’s commom practice to have the bolt seperately from the rifle during transportation. Therefore this bolt knob makes a handy backup tool for those unforeseen situations where the keys are in a locked car for example.

This bolt knob suits most bolt action rifle platforms. Especially those with a one piece bolt or welded on, slotted in, or screw fastened handle. Note: we don’t recommend the use this bolt knob with handles brazed onto the bolt body.

Construction

Lumley used the best T76 alloy for the base and cap of the knob and anodized it with a mil-spec hard coating (type 3).

The glass breaking tip from tungsten carbide secures by an A2 stainless steel nut with a DLC black coating.

The threads are 5/16″ x 24 TPI and 3/4″ (19.05mm) deep so it will shoulder up against every type of handle we’ve come across.

The bolt knob has 21 small ballnose flutes milled onto the knob cap to provide a tactile grip for rapid removal in all conditions. The design of the knob base incorporates a set screw for tightly securing the knob on the bolt handle (optional).

Material

Lumley makes these bolt knobs from aeorspace grade 5 titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V) and produces for tight tolerances, concentricity and squareness.

Finish

This bolt has a black anodized hard coated finish.

Installation

This bolt knob will fit any bolt handle with a male 5/16″ x 24 TPI thread and a threaded stem up to 3/4″ (19.05mm) in length (measure to the handle’s shoulder).

The set screw (‘grub screw’) pre-installed into the lower end of the knob is optional. However we highly recommend that this is retained and fastened tightly once the knob is installed to the bolt handle. Tightening this grub screw enables reliable removal of the end cap and access to the carbide tip in all conditions.

A 2mm metrix hex key is required to tighten (and untighten) this metric grub screw. Please check to make sure the grub screw is wound out sufficiently to clear the bolt handle threads before tightening. This is common issue when installing the knob.
