Description
The Tikka T3/T3X DBM Arctic for factory magazines is perfect for shooting with gloves in cold circumstances. The design of the trigger guard is based on the input from several customers in Alaska and Canada.
We have measured the index finger diameter of several -30°F (-34.4°C) rated gloves to determine the inside clearance needed for the design of the trigger guard. The original style of the factory T3/T3x trigger guard design has been largely retained. However we have elongated the front section downwards to gain extra clearance for gloved trigger fingers.
If you hunt in the extreme cold or rely on your Tikka T3 / T3x for bear defense, our arctic trigger guard will enable you to quickly take a shot without first removing gloves.
You can read a full review of the standard trigger guard version in Australian Shooter magazine here (April 2021 version, reprinted by permission of the Sporting Shooters’ Association of Australia).
Supported Tikka rifle models and magazines

Components
The lightweight T3/T3X DBM consists of three components which are made out of high-grade titanium and aluminium alloys. The three DBM components are the body, the trigger guard and the magazine release lever. The trigger guard is fully replaceable and serviceable.
Materials and finish
The T3/T3X DBM body is made from high grade 7075-T76 aluminium alloy. The trigger guard and magazine release lever are made from aerospace Ti6Al4V titanium alloy. All other components are stainless steel (either 304 or 316 grades). The parts made of titanium are PVD finished while the aluminium body is hard coat anodized according to Milspec type 3.
Installation
This T3/T3X Arctic DBM follows the factory inlet 100% and does not require any modification to the stock aside from drilling the action screw holes out to 10mm to fit the pillars (if applicable). Depending on your rifle some fitting steps might be neccessary. In general it doesn’t take long to fit this DBM in your stock and have it functioning reliably.
You can read instructions in two documents of which one is written by a customer here. The other document you find here.
Factory timber or laminate stocks
The T3/T3X Arctic DBM fits the factory timber or laminate stocks in general easily in a ‘drop-in’ or ‘push-in’ fit style. However please note factory tolerances vary which can cause fitment issues for some rifles.
Factory synthetic stocks
The factory synthetic stocks have very poor tolerances due to shrinkage after molding. For these stocks gently tap your T3/T3X DBM till it fits. Please cover with a soft towel and use a nylon tipped hammer.
Magazine release lever
The Lumley magazine release lever – by design – locks the magazines up tight. The plastic original is typically shorter by up to 0.5mm to 0.75mm than it needs to be. This varies based on degree of wear / distortion from use. This sloppy tolerance is partly why the tension spring is there to take up the slack. In addtion to that there are differences between individual factory magazines.
When needed for your rifle and magazine(s) shorten the top of the lever between 0.5mm to 0.75mm. You can do this quick and easily by just 4 or 5 firm swipes with a metal file. Please remove the lever removed from your T3/T3X DBM and secure it in a vise.
Factory tension spring
The Lumley T3/T3X Arctic DBM is very rigid – whereas the plastic original is not. For this reason the factory tension spring is rigid (0.50mm thick) and excessively angled pushing the magazine forwards. The purpose of this is to counter the flex of the factory plastic parts.
This rigid factory tension spring sometimes causes problems with the magazine not clipping into our T3/T3X Arctic DBM. In that case the only way to insert the magazine is to pull it backwards against the tension spring.
To correct this spring tension, remove it from the trigger housing (5mm hex key required). Next reduce the angle closest to the screw hole to 90 degrees by bending it whilst clamped in a vise.
Bedding pillars and magazine function
It is best to check the magazine function first without the stock. To do this assemble the T3/T3X Arctic DBM to your actions using only the pillars and action screws provided. These pillars guarantee the correct spacing between the action and T3/T3X Arctic DBM. You can measure the tangs on your stock (front: 22.7mm / 0.8937″ and rear: 33.02mm / 1.3″ ) to check for differences.
